Mission
The Young Professionals of Pella strives to serve as a catalyst to grow personal and community connections for individuals in their 20s & 30s and make Pella a better place to live, work & play.
Origins
In the summer of 2006, four local young professionals in the City of Pella were asked to start a group to focus on social networking in the community for those in their 20s and 30s. This came about after a community survey revealed the need for activities for young adults in the workforce that didn’t focus specifically on families. Since then, the organization has grown rapidly! Young Professionals social events now regularly see attendance of up to 30 people per event (often many more!) and collectively are attended by well over 100 different people through the year.
Schedule
The Young Professional sponsor several different types of events! To be in the know about future events, head on over to the Contact Us page to follow us on social media or subscribe to our mailing list.
Social Events
Young Professionals hosts one social event per month! These can be anything from a social hour at a local restaurant to outdoor activities at Lake Red Rock! We try our best to feature local businesses and attractions.
Lunch & Learns
Young Professionals also hosts one “lunch & learn” per quarter! Often these events take place during the lunch hour, but occasionally they end up on an evening or weekend instead. They tend to be a little more educational than our monthly social events. Come and learn about a local business, get financial advice, or hear about the work an organization is doing. Lunch will be provided!
Other Opportunities
In addition to the above, sometimes Young Professionals will highlight other local events in the community. Sometimes we do less formal get-togethers at other local businesses. And sometimes we just meet up at the pub! Keep an eye on our social media feeds and see what we’re up to!
FAQs
Do I have to be a “Professional”?
What is a professional anyway? You may think the Young Professionals is only for fancy business people or lawyers in suits and ties. Not true! To us, a Young Professional is anyone who lives or works in or around Pella and is in their 20s or 30s.
Are you a welder? You’re invited! Nurse? You too! Engineer? College student? Stay-at-home parent? Unemployed? You’re all invited! (The fancy business people and lawyers are invited too, just maybe leave the suit and tie at home…)
Do I need to be a member?
Nope! Absolutely anyone is welcome to show up to any of our events. Some of our events do have limited capacity though, so see below regarding when you need to sign up.
Do I need to sign up for your events?
Sometimes. We try to keep our events as open as possible, but sometimes we do have to limit attendance due to space constraints or at the request of the business hosting us. Occasionally we’ll also ask you to sign up just so we can get a rough idea of how much food to order. We’ll let you know if an event requires you to sign up ahead of time. Check our social media or join our mailing list to stay in the know.
Is there a cost?
Usually not. Our generous sponsors allow us to provide most events free of charge. However some events do end up requiring a small fee just due to the cost of the event. In these cases, we will usually take care of the bulk of the cost and ask you to bring a small cover fee to pick up the rest. We’ll always let you know ahead of time if this is the case.
For legal reasons, Young Professionals also cannot buy alcohol for our attendees, so if an event is at a bar or restaurant and you’d like a drink, you’ll need to pick up the tab yourself.
