Volunteer Opportunities

If you’re looking to get involved in the community, check our some of the fantastic organizations below! These are all organizations that YP has either worked with directly or have reached out to us.

Tulip Time

Pella’s most cherished Dutch tradition is only made possible by its many hardworking volunteers. Pella Historical Museums, the organizer or Tulip Time, has a host of volunteer positions available, ranging from things as easy as sitting and monitoring barricades, to learning Dutch dancing! Some of the positions are even paid!

YP even volunteers to be a part of the parade, driving the big red bike, which showcases local community businesses and organizations.

There are also year round volunteer opportunities available. Check the link below to learn more!

Neil Smith Wildlife Refuge

Just a short drive up the highway from Pella, Neil Smith National Wildlife Refuge is dedicated to protecting and restoring Iowa’s native tallgrass prairie. The refuge is home to a number of native plant and wildlife species, including a herd of bison!

The refuge has a wide range of volunteer opportunities available. A good way to get started is to go for a Saturday morning for seed collection!

Even if you can’t volunteer, we still recommend visiting the refuge. They have a great museum, several scenic walking trails, and a driving tour where you can see the bison! YP visited in 2023 and had a great time!
